PREPARING FOR MAINE’S FUTURE

For Maine’s 175,000 school-age children and teenagers, the next few decades will bring formidable challenges – but also great opportunity.

As they become adults, our kids will face a society and economy undergoing profound transformations. They will witness new scientific discoveries and technological innovations that will reshape how they learn, live, and work. And they will enter a job market hungrier than ever for people able to work in teams and with skills in the STEM fields: science, technology, engineering, and math.

Roughly one-third of working Mainers hold STEM-related jobs now. Forecasters say STEM positions will make up a growing share of the roughly 75,000 jobs that will become available each year in Maine.

FUELING INSPIRATION FOR TOMORROW’S LEADERS

The Challenger Learning Center of Maine has launched a $3.75 million campaign with three critical objectives:

01) Install state-of-the-art simulator & renovate learning spaces
02) Expand scholarships to reach more students
03) Maintain a center of excellence

We have already won $2.2 million of this funding from NASA to install new, world-class hardware and software that enables students to participate in simulated but highly realistic space missions.

To fully maximize the impact of this once-in-a-generation NASA funding, we need to raise an additional $1.55 million to bring our unique and highly effective “hands on, minds on” approach to more Maine students, teachers, and families.
